Patients have an average length of stay of one-to-two weeks in the SICU.

Additional Information:

Must have completed an accredited associate, baccalaureate or master?s degree program. Must be licensed as a registered nurse by the State of Minnesota, CPR for the professional rescuer or BLS for healthcare providers required and every two years thereafter, competency in CPR.

Must have a minimum of 1 year prior acute care RN experience.

Job Description:

Post anesthesia nursing care is a specialty area for critical care nurses. All post anesthesia care unit (PACU) nurses come to this area after spending a minimum of six months working in intensive care nursing. PACU nursing is fast-paced, in that the patients typically stay in PACU after surgery for 60 to 90 minutes.

PACU nursing entails the basics: Airway, Breathing, and Circulation. Other responsibilities such as labs, pain management orders, imaging orders, and surgery-specific assessments are also done. After arriving from the operating room, the PACU RN focuses on ensuring that the patient is adequately breathing, hemodynamically stable within pre-operative limits, has adequate pain management, and symptoms of nausea are controlled or absent.

Additional Information:

PACU nursing requires critical care experience, as any patient may need ventilator support or hemodynamic interventions; Regions PACU also cares for many intensive care patients after surgery but before returning to the intensive care unit. Other patients that are cared for in the PACU are day-surgery patients and patients being admitted to the hospital for post-surgical care.

Must have completed an accredited associate, baccalaureate or master?s degree program. Must be licensed as a registered nurse by the State of Minnesota, CPR for the professional rescuer or BLS for healthcare providers required and every two years thereafter, competency in CPR.
Must have at least 3 years (6,240 hours) of RN experience for all per diem positions.
